Day 8

Lets do a quick comparison. Our normal weekend starts around noon....we wake up, take our time to get ready. We leave the house around 2. grab a quick lunch then we walk around the city. easy and relax.

The past Sat, I woke up at 10am. We headed to the park for a bit before we went swimming
(no camera allow in the pool).

After the swim, we cleaned up and ate Mcdonald. We spent almost an hour waiting for Megan to finish her happy meal.

We went shopping (bought a pair of purple crocs) and had sushi for dinner. Full day activities. Super tired.

Overall, it was fun.

Day 2

Day 2 - super early Sunday morning 7 am.

There were already lots of activities happened downstairs.

7:30 am SUNDAY MORNING - I finally gave up and headed down.

Breakfast was already served and she was doing her summer homework.

I remembered during my HK school years. I always saved them to the last mins and scrambled to finish them. Do the teachers really going to check them?

of course, she misses her parents

Half way during lunch, the jet-lag kicked in and she cried a little.

We went back home right away. She slept and slept and slept.

She missed the world cup game.

continuous slept some more.

Finally after 7 hours, she woke up. We headed out to play some sands.

Don't understand why kids love to play with sands so much.

Visitor

We have a guest coming today. It's her first time traveling without the parents. It's her first time staying with us. It's her first vacation.

We are extremely excited for her visit and the Wife has prepared everything for her stay. New bed sheet, a indoor tent, playing area, toys

Also, ice-cream, candy, chocolate are a must. haha....

It's a great adventure and experiences for her and for me as well. We can have a taste of what parenting is about. (kid rental...haha)

- No more sleep in on the weekend.
- Plan anything around her
- She is the first priority.
- No more free time

Parenting doesn't sound very convincing but we will see after 44 days....

Good thing is the grandparents are coming 2, so they can share the load.

Oh, here she comes....super cute....

Day 1 is done so far so good...

She talks a lot and very active...haha

43 days and counting.

Ice

After Sunday so called Milestone, I haven't been walking properly. My body is sore, my legs are hurt. I have to admit, I'm getting old. It takes a long time to recover.

Hopefully Friday I can get back on the road.

Until then,

Finish line

Thanks for all the wishes. My little legs seems to be getting better and I decided to go for a run this morning.

I love running in the morning. The roads are quiet and the air smells and feels fresh.

It's great to have my cardio workout done for the day. I'm not sure why people say you have more energy after morning exercise. I find it totally opposite after the run. Anyway...

But the best part I love running in the morning is - I always know someone is waiting for me at the finish line

Love to see them. They are so supportive.

Money well spent or not

What's nike plus?
quote from Wikipedia

"The Nike+iPod Sports Kit is a device which measures and records the distance and pace of a walk or run. The Nike+iPod consists of a small accelerometer attached to or embedded in a shoe, which communicates with either the Nike+ Sportband, a receiver plugged into an iPod nano, or directly with a 2nd or 3rd Generation iPod Touch or iPhone 3GS"

Pretty much it is the Nike way of encourage you to get your ass off the couch and go outside and run. go to www.nikerunning.com to learn more.

So, what's the deal with the new watch?
It is not just a watch. it is a GPS watch which it uses satellite to measure and records the distance, pace, elevation, max speed, Calories and of course it maps out your run. Also, it works on biking/swimming.

You can tell with all the additional features. To cut down my time for 20 sec shouldn't be hard. Before we start, my avg pace is around 5'30". lets find out how much faster my run....

Here is the Nike plus sportband with foot pod (accelerometer) on the shoes. It's just like a bracelet. light and simple.

Now, the Garmin FR 310XT

it is like a small PDA attached on the wrist. At first, you can feel the weight but once you start running, you won't notice it. You probably have a lot more things in your head than worry about the weight of the watch (why I'm doing this or how many meters more or i rather sit on the couch eating ice cream.....)

I'm not going to talk about the technical part . I'm sure you can Google it with all the expert review out there. Here we only focus on how much faster I can improve...I need to proof it to The Wife that money well spent.

ok, lets run....

after an hour.....

Garmin

total: 12.55 km
Avg Pace: 05:37 min/km

Nike

First 8.07 km (accidentally stop the run)
Avg Pace: 05:36 min/km

http://nikerunning.nike.com/nikeos/p/nikeplus/en_CA/plus/?sitesrc=fbk_ab_plus#//runs/detail/275828918/1280671892/all/allRuns/

Second 4.42 km
Avg Pace: 05:30 min/km

http://nikerunning.nike.com/nikeos/p/nikeplus/en_CA/plus/?sitesrc=fbk_ab_plus#//runs/detail/275828918/1616138229/all/allRuns/

So, both numbers look pretty close to me. Garmin of course has a lot more info on my run. You can see, the new watch didn't provide the boost to my run.

At the end, whatever work to get me out of the door, either the new watch or a new hi tech T shirt. That's matter.

Does it help to improve my time? No, I still run slow.
Does it get me excited to go out and run? Yes.
Does it create more fun factors after I run? Yes.
Does it make me feel like I'm Elite runner wannabe? Yes.

I say money was well spent.

What do you say?

just run - nothing else

"all I need is a pair of running shoes and i just need to run and run some more...nothing else"

This was the first thing I told The Wife as I decided my next new hobby "running" few months back.

At first, I just ran with a simple T shirt and short. Couple of weeks later, a compression short was added to my outfit. After that a hi tech running shirt.

Later on, The Friend was showing off his Nike plus on faceback. you know those annoying status update.

whoever ran 7.01 km on x/x/2010 at x:xx AM with a pace of x'xx"/km http://go.nike.com/fdaefad

wasting no time, i ordered one myself. (BTW get it from ebay is a lot cheaper than the local store). Of course, I required a little bit explain to The Wife and my excuse was
I have no way to tell how fast I'm running.

The Nike plus was serving me well for about 3 months then The Friend was once again showing off his new GPS watch. Saying how accuracy, how awesome...blah blah blah

As I couldn't resist the temptation and i think I kind of have approval from The Wife.

Here it is...welcome to my new gadget.

Can't wait to go out for a try. Hopefully, Sunday will be nice and with the help of the watch, my time will definitely improve. will it?

so, is my hobby really about running or shopping? Hard to tell.

For the new or future runner - read this

Tell you more after my first run...at the meantime, shop train hard...
